Something mom always did that helped us, was to give us each our own shelf for school books. We were in charge of making sure our books got back on that shelf, and neatly too. She also bought each of us a pencil bag that went inside of our notebook. We had our own pens, pencils, and erasers and they all had to be kept in our bag. These were to be used for school only. We had a separate drawer full of pencils, pens, and markers for coloring, letter writing, and art.

Being an organized person myself, this worked very well for me. My brothers weren't naturally inclined to be tidy, but I think it made things easier for them too.
